4 out of 5 stars Much better than the later model   November 5, 2008
Gutbucket (Gloucestershire, UK)
Having purchased the 2008 version and found it not fit for purpose I exchanged it for this earlier model. I've used it regularly on 2-4 hour car journeys over a few months and have found it to be very reliable. This model is hassle free and just works. I also love the fact that it remembers your chosen frequency unlike the later one and doesn't turn itself off. Grab one of these while you still can!

2 out of 5 stars would be great.....but....   October 24, 2008

The idea is very good and the sound is pretty good too. I can tune it at my house way out in teh sticks with no problem but finding gaps in the frequency range is a bit more tricky when you get closer to the smoke. On the whole the sound in the car is remarkably good. I also leave it running outside the bathroom when I have a bath and listen to it on my waterproof radio (so I don't fry my ipod).

Why only 2 stars then? Well first there is no way of saving your frequencies so you have to retune it every time you use it but WAY more frustrating is that if you play anything other than music it switches itself off randomly. This is really odd and must be a design feature but if you play anything other than music (pod-casts, audio books, or radio plays like the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, or video) it plays for about 90 seconds and then switches off and you have to re-tune it again.

Oh, and I paid 30 for it at HMV. Impulse purchase and I guess they saw me coming.

If you JUST listen to music it is actually pretty good (as long as you want to spend 20 minutes tuning it in).

3 out of 5 stars Would be a fantastic gadget if...   October 8, 2008
Lancashire Lass (Lancashire, UK)
...only I could find an interference-free/quiet frequency on my car & HiFi radios.

My car is a 2004 Honda Jazz SE with a radio/CD & I have a 30GB iPod video, so I bought this gadget with high hopes of listening to my iPod through the radio. I didn't expect the sound quality to be brilliant from my dealings with FM headphones, but (mistakenly) I thought that maybe a dedicated gadget might surprise me... it didn't. The gadget itself works just fine & is not difficult to use, but the problem is finding an interference-free/quiet frequency on my car radio, which is nigh on impossible. The best I've managed is one with a slight hiss/click in the background, but I guess it's better than nothing. I've also tried the Belkin FM gadget, which plugs into the earphone socket of an iPod or MP3 player, but the results were much the same as with the iTrip.

I've tried the iTrip with my JVC HiFi, but the sound is not brilliant. A wired - through aux input/output - iPod adapter/docking station* out-shone the iTrip by a mile.

By the way, if you have an iPod case similar to the i-nique Exec soft Napa leather case then the iTrip won't connect whilst the iPod is in its nice, sleek protective leather case.

Roll on when (later in Oct '08) I upgrade my car to the new-style Jazz with iPort!

* I have the Koda model iD811 docking station from Argos - don't think they stock it any longer :-(

1 out of 5 stars Poor sound quality   June 16, 2008

I bought this based on the positive reviews found on the web and whilst it is simple enough to use and cheap I found the sound quality to be extremely poor. I have tried it on various frequencies and in a number of different vehicles to see if that made a difference and whilst some were better than others I would describe the quality as mediocre at best. If you want something small and quick to use then ok but if you want something that sounds half decent take my advice and look elsewhere

1 out of 5 stars Awful Product   May 22, 2008
Mr. Philip G. Caldwell
This is a terrible device:
1)cuts out after 10 minutes of playing music, then you have to retune it (if it decides to come back on!!!!!)
2)cheap and plasticky exterior
3)fiddley buttons
4)poor sound quality
5)display is barely visible
If i could give this product 0 stars i would, i dont have a good word to say about it, needless to say i sent it back.DO NOT BUY THIS!!!!!!
