All gone wrong within a year August 21, 2008 Paul Bullock (England) Full channel FM transmitter and charger for iPod - Black I've had 3, all in normal daily use, about 4 hours a day, 5 days a week. All have stopped working within 9 months. The first 2 were replaced by Amazon no problem, but with the 3rd Amazon are fobbing me off direct to Macally, which probably means so many have gone wrong Amazon are fed up. Buyer beware.
Not suitable for all cars. June 25, 2008 Mr Slave (In the outback) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This seems to be a good bit of kit if it suits the cup holder in your car. Unfortunately it did not suit the 2 cars that I have. I returned it and got a refund. See text of my complaint below: I wish to advise you that I am unable to use the McCally Cup Full channel FM IPod transmitter in both my wife's (the Dearest Boss) car, a 2007 Renault Megane and my car (2004 Vauxhall Vectra B) for the simple reason that it does not sit securely in the cup holders of either vehicle. It is particularly bad in the Renault Megane, the vehicle in which I intended to use the IPod transmitter. The fit in the Renault Megane is so bad that I would suggest it could be dangerous as the IPod Transmitter could fall out of the cup holder during emergency braking, possibly ending up in the driver's footwell and getting trapped under the brake pedal. In order to find this out, I had to open the package and I spent over 1 hour trying to get this device to sit securely in both cars and failed. Obviously, it is impossible to obtain this information without first removing the FM transmitter from its packaging. As the FM transmitter does not sit securely in the cup holder of either vehicle, it is in my opinion not fit for the purpose for which it was sold and I therefore request a refund. Yum
Macally FM transmitter and charger for iPod - Black April 16, 2008 J. Houlding (Elgin, Scotland) Bought this on recommendation from work colleagues and it's great! A doddle to set up - just set my radio to 88.1 and switched the thing on and it picked the signal up very well with no distortion whatsoever. I have an iPod nano 3G and it's supposed to fit nicely using the supplied inserts but for some reason it doesn't. There's no indication on the inserts supplied as to what ipod they're for so it's trial and error to get one that's right. I had to choose between a really too tight one or an oversized one that offered little support......in the end I opted for the larger one and added a wee bit of foam padding (black adhesive door insulation) to the inside of the insert and it works a treat. I've also adjusted the tight one using a dremmel on the sides and that works ok too. If it hadn't been for this adjusting this would have been a 5 star for me - and that's the only major drawback I've found. The cut out for the centre dial could be a bit lower as if you've got large hands like me then the pause/play button can be a bit tight to get to. I especially like the sprung loaded grips on the side which will suit most in-vehicle cup holders. All in all, well recommended.
Just what you may be looking for ! April 3, 2008 Ed Scunny (Scunthorpe UK) The unit is great for listening to my Ipod in the car. Great reception, no interference. Giving up my Cup holder is fine where it sits in my car. The only problem is having to make sure cup holder and power are very close together, no more than 1 foot at the very most, less is better. Overall it gives great stability to the ipod so its not rolling around the car, FM 88.1 is my setting and have used all over Northern England without problems, including in Leeds and Sheffield.
Nice player but very unreliable February 5, 2008 P. Pollard I have tried various fm transmitters for use in my everyday driving and this product is the best I have heard. But, I am now on my third failure within 8 or 9 months. They all play well for for a short period and have then just packed in. I found that you can unscrew the end that plugs into the car power socket, inside is a fuse which I noticed had gone on the third failure so I bought a pack of fuses in the hope that this would be the cure but no luck. Great player but totally unreliable, forget it!
