2 out of 5 stars Dissapointing little number   November 18, 2008
Tate Taylor (Stourport on Severn, Worcestershire, UK)
Having studied previous reviews of this and similar products, I decided to spend my money on the Grifin iTrip. What a waste of money this has turned out to be. Maybe I have a bad one but there is a constant high piched whine accompanying anything that is being played, the sound quality is punctuated with hiss, crackle and pop (new breakfast cereal) and despite using all of the provided pre set frequencies and a lot of my own, the problem does not go away. I can't blame the system in the car as it has always functioned superbly prior to this. Griffin iTrip Auto FM Transmitter and Charger for iPod - Black

I bought this product from pc world and to date has broken 2 IPod nano's in the same way (yes you are thinking that I am a bit "special" to repeat this mistake again) but i would still advise against this product

4 out of 5 stars Fantastic but one minor fault   September 29, 2008

This is a fantastic piece of kit. i have used it over and over again in my car and have never had a problem with it. However i didnt realise that some ciggarette lighters are bigger than others and when i bought my new car the itrip struggled to saty in and produce a frequency. now one of my mates has to hold it while we are driving or when im alone i have to try and stick it to my dashboard to keep a signal. A minor setback but one that i can certainly live with as it charges your ipod while you drive.

5 out of 5 stars Best by miles.   September 8, 2008

I recently got a 3rd Gen iPod Nano to replace my very old iPod mini. For that iPod I used one of the early Griffin iTrips that fitted in the headphone jack. It wasn't perfect but was the best I could afford at the time. Before that I had one of those cheap ones with green and red LEDs on it that lasted about a week.

For my new iPod I've upgraded to Griffin iTrip Auto, it's so good and so much better than my previous ones. It has presets, recharges your iPod and also has the clearest sound of all. It sounds better than radio, pretty much like a CD.

If you're in any doubt look no further. Basically it's more expensive than the others cos it's better.

3 out of 5 stars Note - must always be plugged into cigarette lighter   August 28, 2008

After spending a while trying to decide which of the many iTrip variations would be most useful, I decided on this one as I thought it would give me the option to charge my iPod on the go as well as listen to my music. Well, in fairness to Griffin and Amazon, the item was delivered on time, and it works perfectly well - good clear reception and easy to set up. My only gripes would be that a) the power supply fits quite loosely into the cigarette lighter, and occaisionally falls out, and b) you must ALWAYS have it plugged into the cigarette lighter for it to work. I thought it would be optional, and that if it wasn't plugged in it would draw power from the iPod, but this is not the case - as soon as the cigarette lighter is unplugged, the whole thing turns off. Not a show-stopper, but if you also use a SatNav that requires power from the same socket, you're forced to either buy a 2-1 adaptor to get the extra socket, or choose between the iTrip and the SatNav. I didn't think this was at all clear from the product description, and if I had known I think I would have bought one that didn't require the power adaptor. Other than those points, as said before, it all works fine, so really I'm docking just one star for the product, and one star for the product description. I hope this helps other potential customers.
