3 out of 5 stars Too much hiss   August 5, 2008
Had high hopes for this transmitter but unfortunately let down. There is a high ammount of noise transmitted which results in a lot of hiss, very noticeable during quiet periods of songs. Tried every clear frequency between 88.1 and 107.9 and results do not improve. Thought it could be my player however even without a source hiss is massive. Another couple of gripes are you can only jump in 0.2 MHz steps (88.1, 88.3, ..) and that the frequency you have tuned into is hard to see on the display.
Shame that so much noise is transmitted as it deals with the music modulated alongside very well, dance, rock and pop all coming out crisp and free from distortion.

2 out of 5 stars Compatibility problem   July 30, 2008
This looks a good product, and obviously works well for some. Be careful, though, if your car has an aerial integrated into the screen (as my Toyota Avensis does), since it then becomes difficult to position the device so that a decent signal comes through. Moreover, what signal does come through is not very high quality.

It may be the only practical solution, however.

5 out of 5 stars Simple, effective, quality sound.   July 19, 2008
This is a great little gizmo. There are a lot of junk ones around, i`ve bought plenty, but this one is in another league. Not only does the job well, but seems to clear out all interference first to make way for your player when you turn it on. Like this a lot. Top marks to Kensington.

3 out of 5 stars OK   July 8, 2008
It works. It's cheapish. It's easy to use. I only use it for spoken word podcasts - sometimes there's minor interference which might taint quiet music, but for me it's fine.

4 out of 5 stars Kensington MP3 transmitter - intitial view.   July 7, 2008
I bought this item after reading other comments here and having also been dissapointed with cheaper units. Upon quickly trying it with a Samsung MP3 player in my Nissan Almera mid-size hatchback with rear bee-sting roof antenna the sound was immediate, strong and clear. The Phillips radio and Kensington transmitter were tuned to 88.1FM as suggested by the Leicester reviewer. The sound quality was noticeably better than my earlier transmitters. Kensington's pack, user instructions and customer support lend confidence to the product. My transmitter came from Avides, Germany, in about three days. It cost around 12, little more than a cheaper shoddy transmitter I returned to an Ebay seller who neither replied or refunded costs. I have used Amazon seller Avides before and been pleased with their service. They seem to use 'green' postal packaging materials where possible; cardboard outer packing with recycled brown paper inside to cushion goods; no plastic bubble wrap. I will try to add to this transmitter review after more use from it. But my first reactions are positive and pleasing.

Re. possible cutting out during quiet passages or pauses in music - I have found this tendency in two newer 'usb' hi-fi units and have come to accept this characteristic in 'digital' music gear. Perhaps the Kensington is no exception; not a problem to me so far.
