Disappointing sound quality September 13, 2007 Stef Robertson (London, England) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Most of this type of device get poor reviews, this one is quite well designed but the sound quality is still too poor for me to live with. The top end of most tracks breaks up - like a bad radio station - which is really irritating. Try listening to Shining Light by Ash - "You are a ssshhhining light". Returned for refund, I'll be fitting an MP3 player to my car instead.
Can you leave this plugged in?? September 12, 2007 S. Hawksworth 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Just bought one of these - great value for money and I'm very impressed with the sound quality. However, does anyone know if it's ok to leave the transmitter permanently plugged into the car socket, or does it still draw power from the battery when turned 'off'?
Don't bother searching eBay for one.... this is the best you'll find. September 1, 2007 D. Lampkin (UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought a FM transmitter off eBay a while a go but took only batteries to power it. While the quality of the sound was good, it ate battery life like there's no tomorrow. So I looked on eBay and found a transmitter that plugs into the cigarette lighter solving this problem and at 7 including p&p it was a bargain. When I got it, the bass was awful - like a cheap 1970s radio - it was that bad. Not wanting to keep on spending money searching for a decent transmitter, I found this one on Amazon. I've been using it for a short while now and have to say it's excellent. The sound is the best you're going to get from one of these. The bass is excellent as is the clarity and the choice of frequencies is brilliant. My original one only had a choice of four this goes right the way throughout the FM frequency range i.e. 87.1, 87.2... etc. Yes, it's more expensive than some of the ones you see on eBay or in shops, but my advice is just pay the extra. It'll save you time and money sending things back.
It works better than I expected August 19, 2007 matsw (Woking, Surrey, UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was about to go on a long drive in France and wanted to play my music on my iPOD through my car audio system. Given the many reviews I have read, I expected a less than perfect performance but anything was better than having to take a trunck load of CDs or listen to French radio. I was surprised to find that it worked so well. I tuned the transmitter and radio to 107.5Mhz and left it there for all 1,000 miles. The only times the reception faltered was when we went past wind power generators. When in the London area back in the UK, I tuned the devices to 87.5, which was also being tranmissted to by local radio. The transmitter seemed to overpower the local radio signal such that the radio locked on to the transmitter signal and cut out the local radio signal, giving a clear reception. I don't know if this is technically what happend but it seemed that way. I wonder whether it depends upon the radio you have and whether the radio locks on to the most powerful signal? The sound reproduced was clear with a wide range and no noticable interference. Bass was perhaps a little too much such that I needed to turn it down on the radio a little. When playing quiet music, the tranmittered turned off, which was somewhat annoying. It comes on again automatically when the sound from the iPOD increased. This is due to a legal requirement (from the EU) for the tranmitter to turn off if no longer receiving a signal. The signal level considered as no signal is too low in my opinion but I guess there must be a good reason for it!? Anyway, if you like loud music, this will not be a problem. I thought about buying the version of the transmitter with an iPOD connector that would charge the iPOD at the same time but I opted for separate charger and transmitter in case I wanted to use a device other than an iPOD in the future. The only problem with this is that the separate charger induces a high-pitched sound on the radio when using the transmitter. I wish I had bought the combined transmitter and charger, though the charger itself is useful for other USB powered devices. In summary, it works much better than I had expected and I had an enjoyable journey.
Kensington Universal FM Transmitter August 18, 2007 G. Robertson (Lincolnshire) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Summary: The best of its type. Having owned a very cheap FM Transmitter purchased from a well known auction site, I decided to try this one in the hope of better quality. The unit looks pretty good, blending in with the interior of the car. It is extremely simple to set up, similar to setting the presets of your car radio. The sound quality is significantly better than the cheaper model I had previously bought, with reception on a par with a commercial radio station. There is also negligible hiss, which is impressive. I haven't had difficulty finding a vacant frequency. 88.1 works well, including driving in the centre of Leicester. As others have mentioned, you must keep your MP3 player volume at about 75% for best results. If the unit does not detect a strong enough input (from your MP3 player), it turns itself off after a short interval. This can be a bit awkward if you want to listen to classical music with quiet passages in it. All in all, I am very satisfied with this product and would recommend it. Amazon has the cheapest price on this. Thanks, guys.
