4 out of 5 stars Not faulty after all   July 27, 2007

I thought that I had received a faulty unit and I was going to return it.
It transmitted just fine, but the problem was that it kept turning itself off after around thirty seconds.

I then read the manual (OK so maybe I should have read the manual first) and saw that the unit is designed to shut down when the music finishes.
So I tried increasing the volume on my music player, and now it works flawlessly. I had to increase to full volume, but I suppose it all depends on the output level of your player and the recorded volume of your music files.

Had it been re-chargeable as well as 12v I would have given it five stars. As it is, I have to choose whether to plug in my satnav or my FM transmitter or use a messy double lighter socket extension lead.

I have used two other FM transmitters and heard a handful more and this by far is the best to date.

I am a mobile engineer in Essex so I do a lot of driving. The transmitter sends a STRONG signal, which is great because it overpowers any background signal.

I use this with a Garmin Nuvi 310 sat nav (highly recommended 5*), which also has the function(which I use) for Bluetooth hands-free calling and MP3 playback.

Music playback is quite literally perfect, just as good as the vans CD player. Implements stereo separation perfectly.

Hands free voice calling is great no dreaded hiss just clear voices.

Recommended!! My girlfriend's dad heard mine for 5 minutes and ordered one the same day, it's that impressive!!

4 out of 5 stars Great for non-iPod users   July 27, 2007

I wanted a cheap MP3 solution for a MkV Golf and this, together with a refurbished Creative Zen Touch, achieved that for about 60 quid. Sound quality is really good. The only drawback I found, at least with the Zen, is the volume transmitted seems to be optimised for mp3s ripped from modern recordings - I had to go through all my classic rock mp3s with MP3Gain to increase the volume levels.

The FM frequencies change in increments of 0.2, so you can tune it to 88.1 and 88.3, but not 88.2. You definitely need the range that this unit offers - the ones with 4 preset channels would be no good at all. I've found that 106.3 works pretty well everywhere except London, where there doesn't seem to be any frequency that is completely free of interference. Being able to drop or disconnect the car aerial would be a definite advantage, or having a less sensitive radio tuner.

Although the transmitter appears to switch off when no music is playing, Kensington customer support say it still draws power, so it's better not to leave it in the socket when not in use.

All in all, a good low cost solution to the MP3 problem and a very competitive price from Amazon.

This is rubbish. I have used several FM transitters and have had little problems - I live in Aberdeen and let's just say, the highlands are not exactly filled with radio stations! However, multiple attempts later, I cannot get this to work. get the new belkin transmitter - it works a treat.

This is the second FM transmitter that I have tried (managed to stand on the first one) and have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. The original trans that I tried (can't remember the make) sort of set my expectations in that I expected there to be a relatively low quality sound and lots of interference requiring tuning to a different frequency often. With the Kensington this is NOT the case. I have the sound quality to be excellent, crisp and clear and have not yet had to move off the default FM freq. This product has completely changed my view of FM transmitters, am considering another one for my wife to use and would highly recommend this.
